Igor Butman

Igor Butman is an award-winning jazz saxophonist, widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in the contemporary jazz scene. He has collaborated with numerous jazz legends such as Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, George Benson, Wynton Marsalis and Pat Metheny having performed on prestigious stages worldwide. Beyond his musical contributions, Butman is also recognized for his efforts in fostering cultural exchange and diplomacy through jazz, solidifying his legacy as a key figure in the global jazz community. He will be accompanied by his band which includes the renowned jazz singer Fantine’s, a rising star on the contemporary jazz landscape and a standout talent in the genre.

YILIAN CANIZARES

Yilian Cañizares is a Cuban-Swiss violinist, singer, and composer, whose music seamlessly fuses the rich traditions of Afro-Cuban and classical genres with contemporary jazz and world influences. Born in Havana, Cuba, Yilian began her musical journey at a young age, and her virtuoso violin skills and soulful vocals have garnered widespread acclaim. A fearless explorer of musical boundaries, she has collaborated with a diverse array of artists, infusing her work with a global perspective. Yilian’s artistry is characterized by a deep connection to her Cuban roots, combined with a willingness to experiment and innovate, making her a dynamic force in the world of cross-genre and international music.

This groundbreaking commissioned project by the festival fuses the vibrant sounds of New York’s jazz scene with the rich cultural tapestry of Bahrain, brings together a fusion of musical worlds. United by a shared love for jazz, our diverse ensemble of New York led by acclaimed trumpeter Ted Chubb and Bahraini jazz musician Ahmed AlQasim embarks on a unique sonic journey, blending the improvisational spirit of the Big Apple with the soulful influences of Bahrain. This collaborative venture features Bahraini guests as well as rising stars from the New York Jazz scene, Kelly Green, Birsa Chatterjee and Darrell Smith and promises to be a celebration of cultural exchange, pushing the boundaries of jazz and creating a dynamic, cross-cultural musical experience that resonates on both sides of the globe
